Kylo Ren, a leader of the First Order, is a strong force user who currently uses his knowledge of the force for the dark side. This article will contain theories and thoughts about Kylo Ren.
WARNING: This post will contain spoilers of previous Star Wars films and shows. If you are not up to date on Star Wars and don’t want anything to be spoiled, turn back now!
First, we need to delve into Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
It all starts with a map. One piece of the puzzle to finding Luke Skywalker who had gone into hiding in search of the Jedi Temple. Kylo Ren is looking for a part of this map when he is first introduced. Without getting into too much detail, we learn that both the the First Order and the Resistance are in search of Luke.
This is where we dive deeper into the story regarding Kylo Ren. We learn that his birth name is Ben Solo, a son to Han Solo and Leia Organa. He was once a trainee under Luke Skywalker, his uncle, who was trying to restore the Jedi Order.
Instead of finishing his Jedi training, Kylo Ren turns to the dark side and leads an assault with the Knights of Ren on Luke Skywalker and his trainees.
We see throughout The Force Awakens that Kylo Ren is torn between the light side and the dark side. Supreme Leader Snoke even points out that he can sense that Kylo Ren is torn. We also not only learn that Kylo Ren is torn between the light and the dark sides, but he is trying to live up to the legacy that Dark Vader, Kylo Ren’s grandfather, had developed.
Kylo Ren’s main feelings of good and justice come from his family. His draw to the light side is because of his connections with his parents. Kylo Ren, in an attempt to sever his connections to the light side, kills Han Solo. Ben Solo is torn about doing it, but allows the dark side to win.
Now that we’ve talked about Kylo Ren’s history, let’s take a look at Darth Vader’s history.
Darth Vader has a long history as he was one of the main characters from Episodes 1 through 6, but let’s keep this brief.
First, it is worthy to note that Darth Vader, also known as Anakin Skywalker, was also torn between the light and the dark side. Anakin was very passionate as a Jedi. He cared a lot about his Master, Obi Wan Kenobi, as well as his beloved, Padme. Anakin was also one of the most powerful Jedi during his time as a Jedi.
While he was a Jedi, he had visions of losing his love, Padme. There is a reason why when you’re a Jedi, you are suppose to relinquish your feelings. Because of these visions, Anakin grew worried that his dreams of Padme dying would come true. His love overcame his duty to the Jedi Order, and he eventually turned on the order with the thoughts that the dark side could save Padme from certain death.
That pretty much covers episodes 1 through 3. Let’s jump to Episode 6 and what we need to know to come up with a theory about what will happen to Kylo Ren.
There are several key things to note from Episode 6.
The first key note is that Vader ends up saving Luke Skywalker from Emperor Palpatine. Vader shows that he not only still cares about his family, but he realized the error of his ways in turning to the dark side.
The second key note, is that at the end of the episode, we see that Anakin Skywalker is now a force ghost. Force ghosts have the ability to talk to the living and guide them.
Now let’s get into the theory.
- Kylo Ren is torn between the light and dark sides of the force
- Kylo Ren wants to live up to Darth Vader’s greatness
- Kylo Ren is related to Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader
- Darth Vader turned back to the light side to save Luke
- Anakin Skywalker is a force ghost
- Could be possible that Rey and Kylo Ren are related
The most linear path would just be having Kylo Ren as the antagonist throughout the rest of the current trilogy. My bet is that they go a similar route to what happened in Episodes 4 through 6.
I think it would be great for Anakin Skywalker to make an appearance as well. Snoke and Kylo Ren take on Rey and Luke. Before that battle, force ghost Anakin makes an appearance to Ben Solo and tells him that the dark side isn’t the way. Wanting to live up to his grandfather’s legacy, he listens, but remains confused. Snoke is about to kill Luke, but because Kylo cares so much about his family, and the words of Anakin are still ringing in Kylo Ren’s ears, Kylo Ren turns on Snoke and kills him before he kills Luke.
What do you think? Is it plausible? Leave a comment and let me know!
